Yes, July 1st is Canada Day. However, it is important to know that in Newfoundland and Labrador, the newest province of Canada, July 1st was Remembrance Day. During World War I on that date about 800 Newfoundlanders went "over the top" into battle and only about 70 were alive to answer the roll call that night. That represented a high per centage of the young men of the province. Practically every family in the province was affected. On July 1st in Newfoundland and Labrador memorial services are held in their memory and in memory of the others from the province who have died in battle.

"On October 27, 1982, July 1st which was known as "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day"." Hope that helps. :)
