We are heading to Newfoundland next week for vacation. We plan on taking the Port Aux Basques ferry over and driving to St. John's. On the way we plan on stopping.
We know we are going to Gros Morne National Park and hiking. We may also do a boat tour there. The plan is to camp there for a night or two.
We may stop in one other place along the way to St. Johns but not sure where.
In St. Johns, we are visiting Signal Hill and George St. We'll stay two or three nights there and take the Argentia ferry back.

Any other suggestions on what to do or where to go either in St. John's or along the way?

Our Provience is beautiful and the people are so friendly. Once in St John's you should go to Cape Spear. There is an easy trail there you can walk. Also once you are on Signal Hill there is a trail that will take you down the cliffs and close to the narrows. This trail is harder to walk...lots of steps. I would also recommend just taking a walk up Water Street and down Duckworth Street. These streets are very close to George Street and very easy to find. They are filled with interesting little shops....lots of local Nfld things and antique shops. Bowering Park is a beautiful Park full of beautiful flowers and a huge duck pond. Our museum is located in a building called "The Rooms" and is well worth a visit. Again, everyone is very friendly and it is very easy to get around the city. I hope the weather is nice for you.

Thank you for choosing our provience.....and enjoy your visit :o)

ps-watch out for moose when you are driving from the ferry to the city

You could always make a stop into Corner brook, Gander, Bonavista Or even the town of Dildo ( just to say you went there) If camping is what you're after pop into Terra Nova park for a few nights.

It's berry picking season on the island so bring your bucket for blue berries.

ENJOY the beauty of the place- I'm absolutely green with envy of anyone getting a holiday but to go to such wondrous places is beyond my dreams- Canada is probably one of the worlds rugged and natural places for beauty and I really do hope you enjoy your holiday.

Find a good pub and get "Screeched in".
