Is there a lot of racism between blacks and whites in Canada?

I would like to visit Canada and if I like it I would consider moving there to get away from all the negative issues America has. How are the cultures there? Do they still have the same racism as we do in America? I heard everyone has free health care, the air is cleaner and its an overall better country than America.

Hey bud, I'm American living in Canada. No the racsim is not really here for black & white, nothing like I'm used to anyway. The air & cities are cleaner because I believe Canadians take pride in what they have. Canada is extremly diverse in it's culture. For the most part totally free health care is gone.

Generally once a year you pay between 0 - $900 depending on your income to the government. After you get started with life here, I think you'll like it real good. It's a very clean country

and is SAFETY oriented. If you come here, do so with the prior knowledge that the insurance companies run most things in Ontario. When deciding which province you want, remember theres a big employment boom in Alberta & central Ontario is doing well itself. If you smoke, quit, cigarettes are high here & gas is sold by litre not gallon. There is approximately 4 litres to a gallon so if you have a gas guzzler, leave that sucker in the US. Good Luck...

Hey dude, Canada is cool, I go over 4 or 5 times a year and i would love to live there.

They treat me great, the people are friendly, but i see what explorer is saying cause the Indians and pakistani people seem a little unwilling to fit in.

As for everyone else, they are great.

They always treat me very good.

I've been to Toronto, Niagara, Fort erie, Barrie, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, North Bay, Halifax, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Saint Johns.

It sure beats Ohio.

I go there for the fishing, the food, the culture, the hospitality and the beauty of Canada.

If i had my choice, I would live on the east coast. I loved Halifax the most.

I dont know much about the medical, but i do order my meds on line because it is cheaper in Canada. They have a real good standard of living.

When i was in Edmonton last year, it seemed a bit expensive compared to other parts of Canada, but if the wage allows it I guess it is ok. Toronto has lots to do, Niagra is a nice fun town also.

Best of all, there aint nobody flying planes into the building there

Go for a visit.

No, not where I live.

Abbotsford .B.C.,

(45 Min's out side of Vancouver Canada)

No we don't have free medical here! But what we do have is minimum medical for the lower income household.

The air is some what polluted in some areas of Canada, I'm only guessing maybe the same as some countries in the states. We are a multicultural place, of all walks of life.

I can only speak for British Columbia only as I no not or how other countries are for racism.

Canada is a very laid back country but make no mistake,

It is a much higher place to live than other places or maybe just the same.

Do your home work first before even thinking about moving here first. Come visit you will love it here.

Born & raised in Canada and traveled far across Canada.

there is almost no overt racism. it simply is not something most people even think about anymore. and when i think of racism issues in canada it isn't even against blacks anyways. where i live at least (beautiful british columbia!!) its not even a thought. the minimal racism i do see is generally more oriented towards people from the middle east or asia. It is extremely illegal to say anything that could be construed as bigotry. if anything we are too PC honestly. I don't think your race would cause you any real issue here. however there are idiots everywhere so you will still meet the odd one.

i live outside vancouver. not too far from abbotsford (place mentioned from comment above) actually. if you want to move to canada move to the west. if you don't mind the lower black pop. its very multicultural and accepting area. and we are generally a more relaxed and open people. and it is simply gorgeous. where i live i can go to the beach, mountains, farms, or forest with less than an hours drive. In the west the air is definately cleaner. less so for the east esp in the toronto area as they get smog rising up from the US border from detroit etc. if you don't want to move to the west move to the maritimes. there really awesome too just smaller pop. avoid ontario and unless you speak french i wouldn't move to quebec.

our healthcare system isn't as good as our government would like you to believe but its still a million times better than americas. while it is "free" there are extra costs you end up paying for (usually fairly minimal) and wait times can be horrendous. and you do indirectly pay in taxes. but you will always get treated as long as you are a canadian citizen.

Racism is every where in the world also here in Canada but not as blatant or as overt as in the USA. Canada is a very multicultural country so they are used to different races and cultures. Schools are neighbourhoods are mixed to the extent there is at least up to 3 out of 5 different culture/nationality in groups of people you see hanging out together.

There is much less racism here in Canada than in the US, but it still exists.

You will find negative American issues here as well, also we have a hockey sock of our own. The US uses the melting pot principle with American first being the concept. In Canada, we use the distinct culture principle.

HEALTH CARE - oh my favourite. It is not free at all. Think of what your annual expendible income is and take between 10 and 13% of it away for health taxes. Unless you live in a province without health taxes, then you pay for your provincial health insurance. There are mixed feelings when we compare our health care with the US'.

About the air, Canada and US share it, both good and bad!

Hey man, there will be some everywhere you go.

But here it is not so much black and white.

Here Canadians are getting angry with the Indians that come here looking for a hand out. Canadians are getting fed up with people from third world countries who get off the plane and land on social assistance, refuse to work or even learn english.

For you sir, I would say we would welcome you with open arms if you are willing to embrace our society and blend into this great country and be Canadian.

Here we try to stop the branding of White Canadians, African Canadians, etc.

We just want to be Canadian and nothing more.

As for the health care, Ontario has a very good system in place. If you contribute, you reap the benefits.

If you have more questions, feel free to e-mail me and i will be happy to answer.

No all Canadians know the difference between the French in Canada and the French in France, firstly the language is not the same, French Canadian sounds entirely different from the French spoken in France, France had a part in colonizing Canada. People in Canada have no reason to hate the French from France and neither do the Americans.

There is not as much racism in Canada as there is in the United States. People are people. Liva dn let live I always say. If you are a nice person and you get a long with others, who cares about the color of your skin? As long as you are a law-abiding person, then you won't have any troubles.

Their is racism everywhere but BY FAR LESS then in the States.I guess that is due to our histories are different .Being America had slavery and other social issues that developed. We pay for our health car in our taxes but it works out better .From my travels to the states I would say our cities are also by far cleaner .You are most welcome to come :)

Much less racism. I find it interesting that I had talked over the phone to people who when I met them , much to my surprise, they were black. The accent is identical. The French/English thing is much exagerated.

You will miss the fact that we almost never invade other countries, we did invade the US in 1812, and do invade Florida every year in February.

No...not really racism....you hardly even notice it in Canada. Most interracial couples don't even get looks in Canada...hardly any racism....of course it does exist like any place, but not to the extent that it is in the U.S.

There is institutionalized racism in Canada. Canada has never dealt with racism in the workplace like the US has and it is a largely under-reported issue in Canada.

You're less likely to experience racism on a social basis because Canada never really experienced segregation like the US did. However, the workplace is another ball of wax.
