Im a foreign student currently living in Canada, i have a PR card but not yet a citizen so i need a US visa to travel to the US. I have a school trip coming up in the US on April 3rd and i have applied for a visa. I have an appointment (tmrw). The problem is i have to travel outside the country on March 6th, so i was was wondering, if i get approved for a visa tmrw how long will it take for it to process and get my passport back to me. Can it be done before March 6th? im really nervous cause i have to leave on the 6th (emergency) and so i need my passport back before then. Anyone have a similar experience and know how long it usually takes to process the visa once it has been approved?

Thanks in advance!

You ask the person giving you the interview. They will explain the details for your particular situation.

They DO NOT need to hold your passport for the entire processing time. They do need to see it and may copy parts of it to process your application. They will need it for putting in the Visa.

Suggest your REAL concern should be your EMERGENCY travel needs. Your pretend school trip is a minor issue and can wait for some other time. It will not be rushed because you have an Emergency in some other place a month earlier.

Your pretend emergency may result in you not getting a USA visa. Your leaving Canada and not going to school may mean you loose your study visa for Canada.

This is not some game to play. You risk loosing your year of study as being incomplete and not being able to return to finish.

The school does not need to give you replacement classes. The Government does not need to give you a new visa and permanent residence can be cancelled if you leave Canada.
