Is the Trans Canada Highway like the Interstate system in the US?

Pretty much the same. We have a primary route and auxillary routes much like your interstate which is actually a sub system of your national highway system, like the Yellowhead here in Canada.

God, no. I can only dream we'll ever have anything as good as that. We haven't even been able to manage one national road that's up to interstate standards. The Trans-Canada goes from one end of the country to the other all right, but what kind of road it is varies considerably, as does the highway number for it. It can be two undivided lanes with minimal shoulder as it is in northern Ontario, it can be four lane or more of divided freeway as it is in more urban areas. From Manitoba westward it's Hwy 1, in other provinces the number changes since highways are a provincial matter in Canada and there is no national jurisdiction for them.

Not really... Ours goes across Canada. And it's basically got 2 highways...
The Trans Canada and Yellowhead.
