They are almost the same. The original name was University or Alberta (Calgary Campus)
You need to look for specific courses. They do not teach all of the same classes. The big difference is what you do when you are not in class. Calgary is closer to the mountains to go skiing for example. They both have sports facilities for students to use they both have residence areas for students. The older ones are from the same plans and are almost identical The ones in Edmonton are taller.than in Calgary. The Edmonton campus is older and has more history.
They both have excellent Petroleum Programs they just differ in some specific courses (classes)
A degree from either is the same.
The campus life at each is different and that is your personal preference which is better for you.
The same for off campus activities . What do you want? You have to apply for admission. As a Foreign student there are only a few places you have to be in the top 10% of your class before you you should think of coming you are competing for a seat with students from around the world.
Apply to both. You only need to decide which is better if BOTH accept you as a student.
Both Universities have contact information. Use it and ask specific questions about your classes

The difference is in what exactly you want Pipeline or Refinery for example.
Good luck you need good marks to even apply and very good English.
There is a good natured pride between schools of which is best. I will not just recommend mine.
You will need to decide if you want to be a Golden Bear or a Dinosaur supporter.
