Hi,

Might be moving there for work soon and (as a single female) I am wondering what are the 'good' vs 'bad' ares to live in (I'm talking crime rates not 'good' vs 'bad' people). Yes I've read the Maclean's article and know that there are a number of variables that were left out of that article.

Frankly I would want to know this of any city I had rarely visited and was planning a move to. For example, if a friend of mine was moving to Calgary I would recommend certain parts of each quadrant.

Thanks and I'm sorry if I have offended anyone.

Basically avoid North Central, an area bordered by Albert St. to the east, Elphinstone St. to the west, approximately 4th Ave. to the north, and Dewdney Ave. to the south. That's pretty much "the 'hood". Pretty much anywhere else is a good place to live. The only other "bad" area might be around the General Hospital.

By the way, it's great that you recognize there are variables that the Maclean's article fails to mention. Regina is FAR from being a dangerous city.

I live in the Northwest end of the city, and it's pretty safe, because housing costs in the area are pretty high. Some of the decent neighbourhoods in this area are Lakeridge, Lakewood, Garden Ridge, Normanview West, and Westhill. Lakeridge and Westhill are a little pricey, but the others are affordable. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend Lakeridge. They are building a bunch of condos that are being sold for a reasonable price right now ($250,000-$300,000), and it's a very family friendly area. Can you tell it's where I live??? We actually leave our doors unlocked sometimes, because we are so set apart from the city up here.

If you are looking for safe, stick with the outside edge of the city, and you will be all right. The area near the university is a little bit bad for car break ins, but only if you are right near the U of R. I lived in the east end as well, and never had any problems. Just stay away from the city center.

Regina has one of the highest crime rates in Canada. There is no safe area.

The best place to move to in Canada is Rankin Inlet. The beaches are awsome and the night life is hot!
