America is not better than Canada. Just as Canada is not better than USA. Each country has its own merits and its own faults. It really depends on what the topic is.

Who has a better military? USA of course. They are the largest and most well equipped military force in the world, and there is no way Canada could even compare. We Canadians finally got three working submarines in our navy in 2014. Until 2012, the West Edmonton Shopping Mall actually had four! But Canada is better in some other areas. I know it is a cliche but I would not give up my healthcare system for anything like what we have seen in USA. And you have good people in both countries.

There was something interesting I saw on YouTube recently for all the people who like to blindly claim that USA is "the best country in the world". It makes you stop and think about the points that are being made, and how you can make your country a better place, and much of it really applies to wherever you live, whether it is USA or Canada or even some place not mentioned.

Canada is better. The Medical system, the old age pension, Government bureaucratic people are friendly and results are much faster, a statutory vacation day is given to all people, You get 3 weeks paid vacation after working for the same Company for only one year. Last but not least, Canada's income tax gives you a basic exemption of 13,500...which I don't think any Country gives their people (except Kuwait where they do not pay any). Nursing homes pay half and the client pays the other half. Abundant student loans for Universities. Remember, Canada is #1 in the world for having the most educated people per capita.

Fast food, totally and hands down. Compared to America, Canada's fast food sucks.

I've travelled extensively in the USA, and no matter where I go there's always somewhere I can get chicken & waffles smothered in melted cheese and chocolate sauce 24 hours a day. And at no extra charge, they'll wrap it all in a flat-bread, include gravy on the side and deep fry the whole bag. For an extra buck, they'll fill up a plastic garbage can with any fizzy drink I can imagine and put a straw in it.

THAT is fast food, dammit, and it's pure heaven. Americans know that food is supposed to taste good, and deep-frying makes it taste good. The finest cuisine in the world doesn't come on fine china with a polished platter, it comes wrapped in tinfoil in a cardboard box. And you can't get the really good stuff in Canada, not without some annoying health-hippie screaming about how bad it is for you. All our good fast food up here, except for Swiss Chalet and Timmy's, comes from American companies. McD's, KFC, Taco Bell and Burger King are not Canadian companies. There's your winning argument right there.

But be careful with it, because your Canadian buddy might shoot back that your fast food also may be the reason the USA has 400% more 300+ pound fat chicks than we do per 100,000 people.

And leave beer out of the discussion. Seriously, American beer is only given to small children and the elderly in Canada.

You're wrong and he's right.

Just on health care, Canada spends 11% of our GDP, and covers everyone, such that we also outlive Americans by 2-3 years.

The US spends 17% of it's GDP, fails to cover everyone, and on average you all die 2-3 years early.

If you just copied our health care in Canada, you would gain 6% of your economy FOR FREE.

So yeah, the US is NOT better than Canada, it's the other way around.

Oh, and your news media SUCKS, compared to ours. That's another Win For Canada.

America isn't better than Canada. It's just different. They both have their good points. What a stupid, completely douchebag topic. This is why people hate America--our arrogance just illustrates our stupidity. Why does anyone feel the need to say one country is better than another? I have a dear Canadian friend who'd never make such an idiotic comment, and neither would I. Just another stupid pissing contest without any merit.

i am not sure about your definition of dignity since watching the american news leads one to believe dignity is the last thing one could find in the US. As for Canada, we rarely have babies shot in drive by shootings or in road rage incidents. We do not have to pretend to be Canadians when travelling abroad like many Americans have so they received better service. Although our taxes are higher we have more options as far as health care when compared with the average American and the rich here either have to leave the country and go to the US or wait in line like everyone else for medical treatment unlike certain other countries. They cannot push a poor person out of line for medical assistance.

Let me see....oh yes most surveys place Canada as a better overall place to live than the US, generally several places above them so I guess you cannot use them as a reason.

Canada does not have the population so our military is smaller and not as well equipped so that is one area where the US is superiors although we do no have billions in debt relating to military spending. With our lower population economics of scale do come into play so goods are sometimes cheaper in the US than they are in Canada. The US subsidizes it's farmer's a lot more than Canada to keep prices low and complains the most about other countries and their subsidies. Canada banned many growth hormones used in animals produced for food so the US was higher in that area although apparently they are now reducing this practice.

Hmmm....sorry cannot really find anything that makes the US better.....oh wait, there are two things.....Disneyland and Disneyworld.....both of which I would love to see in Canada and the only reason I travel to California. I will certainly give you those.

Canada is a right wing genocidal dust bin with no economy, sh*tty people, a huge inferiority complex, and has a right wing dictator as a prime minister. It has the second worst healthcare system in the developed world (just one spot ahead of the US), it has the worst social safety net in the west, the gun laws and self defence laws are horrible, free speech is quashed thanks to fascist legislation, and the people act, talk, and vote EXACTLY LIKE americans.

What does America do better? Well for starters, we copy everything you do after you did it. You are the original, we area copy.

Frankly I hate both countries.

Living in both I can say

Us: variety, cost of living, shopping, people not afraid to be real, more jobs, people are easier to know, the weather is warmer, more exciting, more cultural opportunities, less taxes,

Canada: high standard of living, less disparities in class and healthcare, more multicultural, more social programs, people look out for each other more, people more polite

I don't know of anything, except that the US has better shopping and better highways and you can go to a warm beach in winter without needing a passport . Other than those things, nothing is better there. As a Canadian I can shop, use the highways, and visit the beaches for at least some of the year without having to live there.

It is easier to get richer, faster, in the USA. However, on average, everyone is poorer there than in Canada. There is also a larger variety of things to buy, and things are generally a bit cheaper.

That's about it.

"Update: lol didn't expect so much hate for a simple question. I honestly love canada, and we were both dissing our countries."

Do try to keep in mind that we're the nation that invented fist fighting on skates (aka hockey) because we got bored of beating the hell out of each other the regular, old fashioned way.

For a nation that Americans weirdly assume is boring, polite and peaceful, we're actually quite vicious and violent if people annoy us.
