1) Quebec is now a nation within Canada, you mind as well call it another country.

2) Isn't it Shameful that for a country that likes to boast that people from different countries and cultures all live together in peace that you can't get along with your own in Quebec.

3) People from Quebec would rather call themselves Quebecois than Canadians.

4) Isn't shameful that the Canadian Prime Minister allowed President Skarzoky to speak to Quebec like France still has rights to that province and to call the people of Quebec, Quebecois instead of Canadians.

Uh, "a nation within Canada" has no real meaning. That's precisely what Canada is; a collection of British colonies that united to repel American attacks and make trade easier.

2) Isn't it Shameful that for a country that likes to boast that people from different countries and cultures all live together in peace that you can't get along with your own in Quebec.

Every country will have social problems. They didn't exactly get on board with the whole British thing willingly. They were defeated in a war.

3) People from Quebec would rather call themselves Quebecois than Canadians.

Of course. Duh. If you said "I'm from Canada", thats ten million square kilometers you're talking about there. Each province has its own distinct customs and cultures.

4) Isn't shameful that the Canadian Prime Minister allowed President Skarzoky to speak to Quebec like France still has rights to that province and to call the people of Quebec, Quebecois instead of Canadians.

Why is that shameful? How did he speak to the Quebecois in the manner that you described? They're called Quebecois because Quebec has French roots while the rest of Canada has British ones.

There are a great MANY nations within Canada. A nation is a group of people who are connected through a shared identity. The First Nations, for instance. There are a group of aboriginal people who are connected through shared identity to other people from their clans. Chinese Canadians are considered a nation within Canada too. And any other group.

Mostly, we do get along pretty well. There hasn't been really unsettling French vs. English violence in the last few decades. Since the whole Black October thing.

What's he supposed to do? Shoot Sarkozy in the head and instigate world condemnation of Canada? Sarkozy can say whatever he wants. The French people of Quebec feel less attached to France than they do Canada. France ABANDONED them over 250 years ago. They left them to the hands of the English after their pitiful war. They're a completely different culture to France, a different dialect. And most don't give a crap about Sarkozy or any other French politician.

I'm not ashamed in general, because if the Quebecois had their way, I wouldn't have to learn French. Yay! No French class!!! But they'll never be able to split because the Bloc Quebecois can only control part of Quebec and even if they can control all of Quebec, they'd only have 1/5 of Canada's 30 million people on their side.

Yes it is shameful and embarrassing for us Canadians. I am from Ontario and it makes me angry that Quebec wants to separate from Canada and that they think just because they speek a different language they can be different and follow different rules than the rest of Canada. Also I am disappointed at Canada because the First Nations AKA Aboriginal people have a totally different set of rights and freedoms than the other people.

Do you know at least one French Canadian? I am from Québec, I moved to Alberta for a period of 6 years. Most Québec haters over there had never came across a Québécois but they hated us. While I was living in Edmonton I made many Anglophone friends, after they got to know me as a person, a friend, a mother and a spouse they all told me the same thing: The media are responsible for us hating you so much, you're just like us ! you're not a monster!

1) Yes we were recognized as a nation but it doesn't mean anything if this recognition isn't allowing us some liberty like welcoming the President of France in our name. Did you listen to Sarkozy speech? you would have heard him say he wants a strong alliance with Québec in a UNITED Canada!

2) How exactly do we not get along? once again politicians will fight cause it's their jobs, meanwhile I live and work with people from all over Canada and I get along with them just fine.

3) We see ourselves as Québécois first because we have different origins then the rest of the country. We have a specific culture, a way of living, thinking that is different then the rest of the country. We are more liberal than the rest of you because of our heritage not because we are trouble makers. When I travel in Canada I am Québécois, when I travel in the world I say I am Canadian.

4) France has no rights over Québec but we consider ourselves cousin nations. Every Québécois knows from what part of France his ancestors are from, after genetic research Québécois have retain 95% of their French genetics. Unlike the Irish, Scotish, British who settled here we had to fight to keep our language and religion..that is why it is so important for us. We are 4 millions French speaking Québécois in Québec and we live in a 24 millions English Country located next to biggest world power the U.S. with 305,441,622 of english population. If we don't huff and puff about our culture and language we will disappear!

Québécois don't want to separate. Le Parti Québécois was created in 1976 and allowed laws like bill 101 protecting our language, there was a need and a purpose for such political party then.....separation of Québec is a thing of the past. Nowadays if the Parti Québécois wants to have any elected seats at the Parliament they have to shut up about the separation because people don't want to hear about it anymore!!

I live on the border of Quebec and Ontario....I know many people from Quebec, plus the many I come across on here and various other online places. None of them want to separate, which they maintain is the views of the every day person. Those that mainly wish to separate are the politicians. They did put it to a vote, and the majority voted no, they did not wish to part from Canada.

When asked, I tell people I am an Ontarioan.......Canada is a HUGE country, I like to narrow down the spectrum a tad. I even call myself a Chippawanean quite oft, as it is the ville within Niagara Falls I grew up in.

I think its a tad shameful when people from other parts of Canada express how they wish to "throw out" Quebec, my own relatives included. They are as much a part of us, as we are of them, even if neither party wishes to admit it. I am sure a good majority of Canadians are that way, when it comes to their own province, as each province is like its own mini-nation. We have differing laws, governments, histories, peoples.

--->to answer your number 2) question, you are not getting it. We get along fine with Quebec, but all the provinces are like siblings, fighting over attention. If we are not so concerned, why are you? Why do you spend so much time trying to ask questions about Canada which contain such thinly veiled insults? Perhaps you need a hobby.

No.

Quebec does have a rich culture and heritage that is different from the rest of Canada so they do need to fight to maintain that. The whole seperation thing was sort of a publicity stunt in a way.The Bloc Q will never get elected as pm, they exsist so that Quebec will have propre recognition in parliament.

i couldn't care less about them. They are lost nation, they aren't canadians and they're not french either.

Whatever. I don't really like their attitude, especially when you go to Quebec city.So what if i don't know French,do they really think that the whole world should speak French? Especially when you try and they still don't appreciate it,that tells you all. So they can take their Quebec and shove it you know where!

If they would go Canada would be a better place, but they never will go it is like having the spoilt teenager who never moves out but wants everything under the sun. Even when they rigged the vote they still couldn't get enought votes to seperate.

I say we should throw them out!

I wish they'd separate, but they never will. Life on 'easy street' is good for them and they know it.
