ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) (www.abet.org) is the sole accreditor in the U.S.of Applied Science, Computing, Engineering and Engineering Technology programs at the college and university level ( mostly baccalaureate, but also associate and masters programs). ABET is world renowned and accredits technical programs across the globe. Without a degree from an ABET accredited program, it is very difficult to secure a state issued engineering license within the U.S. or to secure employment as an engineer with federal/state governments, government contractors, or other large employers. ABET is a signatory to the Washington Accord (www.washingtonaccord.com), a mutual recognition agreement between accrediting bodies from 13 different countries, including the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) of Engineers Canada (www.engineerscanada.ca). ABET also has a separate bilateral mutual recognition agreement with the CEAB (www.engineerscanada.ca/e/files/abet_eng.pdf).

I too have never heard of ABET. I looked it up, but, the website itself really doesn't tell us much.
The USA has a very complicated accreditation system. I have seen where a particular school was accredited by a certain accreditation agency - who actually owned the school! Something like that would not be allowed in Canada! I do not know what US systems are accepted here; you would have to speak to a university here, or, just present our credentials to a Canadian employer, and hope for the best.

I've never heard of it but that means nothing. If your degree was in medicine it will mean nothing because foreign trained doctors find it very difficult to get their training recognized by Canadian Medical Societies. When you apply at the Canadian Embassy, they will give you a better answer.
